Year 9 Mini Options

Students choose 2 subjects from:

Computing, Food & Catering, Product Design & Materials, Art & Design, Music, Drama.

Each of the chosen subjects will be studied for 2 lessons a week. 

Enrichment Activities

We aim to recognise achievements in Enrichment activities through certification wherever possible.  Some of the courses offered will be full-year courses, others will be termly courses. At the start of each term, students choose the course they would like to follow.  We will implement a system to ensure that all students follow a range of courses across the year.

    The remaining 4 lessons will be made up of their individual two options choices of Art, Drama, Music, Computing, Food & Catering, Product Design or Textiles

     

    Year 8 & 9 Enrichment

     

    Students in Years 8 & 9 follow an enrichment programme for 1 period a week.  This takes place on a Friday afternoon P5. The aims of the enrichment programme are as follows:

  • to broaden students’ learning experiences by offering activities that are not offered in the mainstream curriculum

  • to develop students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding, including the development of their leadership skills

  • to develop students’ interests and talents

All students follow the following subjects:

  • English Language & English Literature (4)

  • Maths (4)

  • PE (1) (this takes place during Period 6)

  • Core Science (3 pds, with an additional 3 pds if separate science is chosen as an option subject: see below)

     

    In addition, students make 4 other choices. They can choose from:

  • Spanish

  • Construction

  • Food Prep & Nutrition

  • Sports Studies
  • Product Design

  • Religious Studies

If students choose Separate Science, their 3 additional lesson will be made up of either Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Computing. 

Each option subject is studied for 3 periods a week in both Year 10 & Year 11.
